Install WordPress

WordPress is a very popular CMS (Content Management System) and offers many powerful tools for running a website. In this article, we will show you how to get your WordPress up and running quickly and easily.

How to Proceed

Sign in to the customer portal using your MY user and password.

Navigate to the Web & Mail Control Panel.

You are now on the overview page.

Preparing the Installation

To optimally prepare the installation of WordPress, carry out the following steps in the Web & Mail Control Panel:

  • Check FTP User
  • Check PHP Version
  • Define Root Folder

Check FTP User

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows you to connect to the web server with an FTP client. This is useful for checking the folder structure for your web hosting package, among other things.

Set a new password for your primary FTP user. To do this, follow the instructions below (section Change password):

Check PHP Version

WordPress is based on the PHP scripting language. To ensure that the installation can be guaranteed, check the PHP version that your domain is currently using.

Note: We recommend that you always use the latest PHP version.

Follow the instructions below to check and adjust the PHP version:

Define Root Folder

Before you start the installation, create a new root directory (document root). WordPress will then be installed in this folder.

To do this, follow the instructions below (section Show content of the webspace):

Choose a suitable name for your directory (e.g. ‘/wordpress’). Use an FTP connection to check whether the folder already exists. To do this, select a new directory that does not yet exist. A new directory with the selected name will then be created.

Then click on Save Changes.

Note: Always use lower case letters for directories.

Install WordPress

You are now ready to install WordPress. Select the Applications menu item in the navigation on the left-hand side. Click on WordPress in the selection.

In the Install WordPress menu, you can define how you want to install the CMS.

Data on the installation of WordPress:

  • Title: WordPress (recommended)
  • Email: Enter in a valid email address.

How would you like to call WordPress?:

  • Choose domainChoose the domain you would like to install WordPress on.
  • Target directory (optional): empty (recommended)

Tick both options after you have read and understood the licence terms.

Click on the green Install Now button.

Note: The installation takes several minutes and continues to run in the background. Once the installation has been successfully completed, you will receive a confirmation by e-mail.

After successfully completing the installation, you will see your access data for WordPress.

Note: Be sure to make a note of the access data. They will no longer be accessible afterwards.

Congratulations! You have now installed WordPress for your website.

Note: You can access the WordPress backend by adding ‘/wp-admin’ after your domain.
