More flexibility in the cloud
Virtual servers widen an SME’s scope since the strict limits of its own server structure is no longer a hindrance and can be expanded as needed. Based on the model you choose, the boundaries between your own on-site IT, the hosted cloud, and the public cloud merge. The modular concept allows you to select and quickly use the modules that are right for you.
When choosing a cloud provider, close attention should be paid to the interoperability of the selected solution. Ideally, virtual servers can be seamlessly connected to the local infrastructure. A management console should allow you to both monitor and move applications as well as configure entire server farms and virtual networks. It should also be possible to use a modern cloud package for backups.
The following are key functions for virtual servers:
- Use of existing images
- Creation of templates (e.g. for firewall configuration)
- Creation of virtual networks
- Integration of local networks
- Alarm function
- Mirroring SQL databases
- Replication domain controller
- Redundant file server
Careful selection of a cloud package pays off in the long term. After an initial investment, the solution is scalable. Overall costs are reduced while flexibility increases.
